aria is pleased to partner with l’Atelier de l’observatoire within the framework of their Madrassa program of residencies, meetings and trainings in contemporary curatorial practices in the MENA region.
aria will host the following Madrassa 2017 participants in Algiers for a 10-day curatorial research residency:
- In October 2017: Salima El Aissaoui, Rabat-based curator, writer and founding member of the soon to be launched The Moors political and cultural magazine
- In December 2017: Raafat Majzoud, Beirut-based artist, architect, writer, co-founder of the Beirut-based magazine The Outpost and director of The Khan: The Arab Association for Prototyping Cultural Practices
In addition, as part of Madrassa 2015, we will also host Tangier-based curator and founder of Mahal Art Space Nouha Ben Yebdri in curatorial residency for one month in Algiers in October and December 2017. Nouha’s residency benefits from the mentorship of London-based curator Ali MacGilp who will be in Algiers in December 2017.
Madrassa 2017 is a programme conceived by Atelier de l’Observatoire, implemented with Spring Sessions, with aria (artist residency in algiers) and Mass Alexandria.
Madrassa is supported by SouthMed CV Union européenne au Maroc, Kamel Lazaar Foundation , INSTITUT FRANÇAIS and Mawred Thaqafy with the participation of Goethe-Institut Rabat and Mophradat.
